All South Africans that were reported to have been affected by Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, USA have been located alive and well.

Foreign Affairs says this includes those South Africans that were either reported at the South African Embassy or Foreign Affairs Department in Pretoria as having been in New Orleans at the time of the devastation of Hurricane Katrina.

Foreign Affairs Minister Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma has expressed her gratitude to all Foreign Affairs Consular officers at home and in the USA as well as families of those affected for their co-operation in locating the affected South Africans.

"The Department of Foreign Affairs, will, continue to liaise with the USA authorities with a view to determining whether there were any outstanding and unreported South Africans that may have been adversely affected by the hurricane," she said.

Dr Dlamini Zuma also reiterated President Thabo Mbeki and the government's heartfelt condolences to the government and people of the USA and in particular those families who  lost their loved ones. - BuaNews
